What is Sidegra?
Sidegra is a brand name that includes Viagra, which is sold with sildenafil, among other brand names. Sidegra (sildenafil) is different from tadalafil, which is also commonly used to treat erectile dysfunction and is often sold under the brand name Cialis. Sidegra is available as a standard or chewable tablet for oral administration, an oral suspension, and an injection from your doctor. Sidegra is used to treat erectile dysfunction and sometimes pulmonary hypertension – high blood pressure in the blood vessels that lead from the heart to the lungs. This medication is available by prescription only.
How does Sidegra treat erectile dysfunction (ED)?
Sildenafil is part of a class of drugs called phosphodiesterase (PDE5) inhibitors. Sidegra can work in different ways depending on the condition it treats. When used to treat erectile dysfunction, Sidegra temporarily increases blood flow to the penis, helping you get or maintain an erection. However, Sidegra only works when you are sexually aroused.
How does Sidegra treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH)?
Sidegra treats pulmonary hypertension by relaxing muscles and opening blood vessels in the lungs. Therefore, Sidegra lowers blood pressure in the lungs and slows the progression of the disease. Sidegra also enhances your ability to exercise PAH.
Sidegra Dosage and Strength
Sildenafil dosage for ED ranges from 25 mg to 100 mg. The most commonly prescribed dose is 50 mg, but can be adjusted based on patient results. It should not be taken more than once a day and should be taken 4 hours before sexual intercourse. It works within 30-60 minutes.
However, if you have certain pre-existing conditions or are taking other medications, your doctor may recommend that you take Sidegra less often than once a day. It may not be safe to take Sidegra if you take nitrate medications commonly used to relieve chest pain, as the combination of these medications can cause your blood pressure to drop dangerously low.
For PAH, tablets are available in 10 mg and 20 mg strengths. Typical adult dosage is 20 mg, taken 10 times a day, and children’s dosage ranges from 20-20 mg, taken up to 20 times a day, depending on their weight. If you forget, you should take Sidegra as soon as you remember, unless it is close to your next scheduled dose, in which case you should wait for your next dose. You should never take two doses at the same time to make up for a missed dose.
Always take Sidegra as prescribed by your doctor or pharmacist.
Sildenafil can be taken with or without food. However, if you take Sidegra to treat erectile dysfunction, take it with food (especially fatty foods), which can slow down the effects of the medicine. Additionally, if used to treat PAH, sildenafil should not be taken with grapefruit juice because it can affect the effectiveness of the medication.
